Viking Ghost - the first game from indie developer Dead Alien Cult - is a comical, story driven "Arcade Action Adventure-Dual Stick Shooter-Dungeon Crawler-Rogue-Like-Lite" (that tastes great...and less filling!). The game features eight locations, each having procedurally generated layouts that are different on each playthrough. The main inspirations behind the gameplay come from classics like; The Legend of Zelda, Smash TV, Robotron - as well as more recent indie titles like The Binding of Isaac, and Spelunky.

In Viking Ghost you'll be using many different weapons and special abilities to fight your way through waves of enemies, as well as each level's Boss. In addition to combat, you'll be solving simple puzzles to advance through certain areas. Viking Ghost also features a light upgrade system, where you can spend experience points gained during battle at the end of each level, to further improve attributes like speed, attack, defense, etc. You'll also be able to spend coins on various items to help you along your way.

Without giving too much away about the story - In Viking Ghost you play as "Ulfrik The Skull Splitter" - the greatest warrior to have ever terrorized the land - on his quest for revenge against those who've caused him to die a most unceremonious death, trapping him in the form of a restless spirit!



After beginning work on an ambitious multiplayer third person shooter prototype, Dead Alien Cult decided to put that idea on hold and try to create a much smaller scope game, one which would rely heavily on procedurally generated maps - to help lessen the work involved in designing environments with only one artist. Soon they began putting together a new prototype based on that core requirement. The intitial concept for Viking Ghost's gameplay came from wanting to create something with a fast paced classic arcade feeling, yet still having the moments of exploration found in adventure games. The idea for Viking Ghost came after many beers, a love for heavy metal, and deciding to randomly combine the words viking and ghost together because we thought it just felt cool.
